Team sport is a form of sports where the fundamental nature of the game or sport requires participants working together as part of a team, and it is inherently impossible or highly impractical to execute the game or sport as a single-player endeavour. Examples of team sports include football, soccer, basketball and hockey, and even baseball (although it is not usually considered a true team sport).
Children play team sports to develop their physical fitness and mental toughness while making healthy social connections with their peers. They learn to appreciate the importance of hard work and practice, as well as the value of putting their own personal opinions aside for the greater good of the team. This is a valuable skill they will carry into adulthood as they work in teams and compete for their livelihoods.
While team sports are a great way to build character, they also teach kids how to manage stress and pressure. They will be required to balance homework, study and family commitments with a demanding athletic schedule that includes frequent travel, training sessions and competitions. It will be a full time job for them, and they will have to manage their schedule and make sacrifices if they are going to achieve their goals.
Being involved in a team sport will also teach them how to respect and understand the needs of others, as well as the importance of mutual support and encouragement. It will teach them to celebrate victories and to be gracious in defeat.
